U of T researchers find diabetes medication may slow memory decline in Alzheimer’s patients

A new study from researchers at the University of Toronto and the Sunnybrook Research Institute has shown that a common diabetes medication may have the potential to slow memory loss in patients with Alzheimer’s disease.

The research team found that the rate of memory decline was slower in people with Alzheimer’s disease who took a specific class of anti-diabetic drug, known as a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP4) inhibitor.

Even an imaginary partition can deter children from cheating on tests: U of T, international researchers

A new study by an international team of researchers, which includes the University of Toronto’s Kang Lee, found that see-through partitions – and even imaginary ones – can deter children from cheating on tests.

The study, published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, shows that simple environmental cues can nudge children to do the right thing.

Plans for future pandemics should include community sport, sport for development: U of T study

Months into the COVID-19 pandemic, countries around the world are continuing to see health, societal and economic impacts. A survey conducted by StreetGames, a U.K. charity delivering neighbourhood sporting projects, found that 68 per cent of the 248 people surveyed in low-income areas of England and Wales were engaging in less physical activity. This was accounted for, in part, by the limited space available to those who live in low-income areas.
